You get a dated copy of exactly what was sent and when. If the provider bills you after that date, that copy is what your bank wants to see.

Does a Xbox Game Pass cancellation notice actually do anything?
It does one specific thing, and it is worth being precise about what. Giving written notice of cancellation is the act that ends the auto-renewal obligation, and a dated notice fixes when you gave it. Clicking a cancel button also ends the obligation — but it leaves you with a confirmation email at best and nothing at worst.
That difference is invisible until it matters. If Xbox Game Pass bills you after the effective date, the question your bank asks is when you cancelled and what proof you have. “Turn off recurring billing” keeps your access to the end of the period. “Cancel subscription” can end it immediately with a partial refund. Pick deliberately: they’re not interchangeable.
Saves stay, games don’t
Your saved games and achievements are kept. The games themselves stop launching, and re-subscribing restores access without losing progress.
Prepaid and stacked time can’t be refunded
If you’ve converted prepaid codes into subscription time, that time generally runs to term rather than being refunded.
