How Submo cancels Spotify Premium for you
- 1
Tell us who to cancel
Your name, address and the email on the account. That is everything we need — we never ask for your password and never sign in as you.

We prepare the notice
Submo composes a formal cancellation notice addressed to the provider's record, citing the account details you gave and requesting written confirmation.
- 3
We send it and tell you
The notice goes out on your behalf. You get a timestamped copy by email, so you have a paper trail if a charge shows up afterwards.

Why a written notice beats clicking cancel
A written record, timestamped
You get a dated copy of exactly what was sent and when. If the provider bills you after that date, that copy is what your bank wants to see.
No call, no retention script
You never speak to anyone. A written notice skips the save offers, the hold music and the chat agent whose job is to talk you out of it.
A data-deletion request included
Every notice also asks the provider to delete the personal data it holds on you, under CCPA or GDPR depending on where you live. They are obliged to answer it.
Our fee back if we don't send it
If Submo fails to send your notice, we refund our fee in full. We can't promise what the provider will do — nobody can — only what we do.
Before you cancel Spotify Premium
Five minutes here saves the two things people lose most often when they cancel: a period they'd already paid for, and something they can't get back afterwards.
- 1Export or note your playlists. Followed playlists stay, but a Family or Duo plan collapsing back to individual accounts is where people lose collaborative ones.
- 2If you're the manager of a Family or Duo plan, tell the other members first — cancelling removes Premium from all of them, not just you.
- 3Check whether Spotify came bundled with a phone contract or a hardware promotion; those are cancelled with the provider, not with Spotify.
Does a Spotify Premium cancellation notice actually do anything?
It does one specific thing, and it is worth being precise about what. Giving written notice of cancellation is the act that ends the auto-renewal obligation, and a dated notice fixes when you gave it. Clicking a cancel button also ends the obligation — but it leaves you with a confirmation email at best and nothing at worst.
That difference is invisible until it matters. If Spotify Premium bills you after the effective date, the question your bank asks is when you cancelled and what proof you have. A dated notice answers both in one document. This is also why it works when you can't sign in: the notice doesn't depend on reaching a button inside the account.
What it does not do is compel Spotify Premium to act. No letter can. Anyone selling you one that does is selling you something that doesn't exist.
Can I get a refund from Spotify Premium?
Two different questions get mixed up here. The first — money back for a period you paid for and won't finish — is entirely Spotify Premium's decision under its own refund policy, summarised in the self-serve section below. You can ask for it on the form above and the request goes into the notice, but it remains a request.
The second is a charge taken after your cancellation was effective. That isn't discretionary and isn't really a refund: it's a disputed charge, and your card issuer can reverse it. The dated notice is the evidence that supports the dispute, which is the main practical reason to send one at all.
How to stop Spotify Premium auto-renewal
Spotify Premium renews monthly until cancelled. Cancelling drops the account to the free ad-supported tier rather than closing it, so your library and playlists remain and nothing further is charged.
The notice we send asks explicitly for auto-renewal to be disabled and for any stored payment method to be removed, rather than only for the subscription to end. Those are separate things at most providers, and leaving the card on file is how a lapsed account quietly restarts.
What happens to your Spotify Premium data
The account itself survives as a free account with its playlists, saved albums and followers intact. That means cancelling Premium does not remove your personal data — closing the account is a separate action, and a deletion request is separate again.
Every notice we send also carries a data-deletion request — under the CCPA if you're in the US, or the GDPR if you're in the EU or UK. Both give you a right to ask and oblige the provider to respond, though both also allow retention for specific purposes such as tax records. So it is a right to an answer, not a guarantee of erasure, and the notice asks Spotify Premium to say which exemption it relies on if it keeps anything.
Can't cancel Spotify Premium? The usual reasons
“The app sends me in a circle when I try to cancel”
Cancellation isn't available inside the mobile app. Open spotify.com in a browser, sign in, and use Account → Manage your plan.
“I'm on a Family plan I didn't set up”
Only the plan manager can cancel the plan. You can leave the plan from your own account, which stops your Premium but not the manager's billing.
“I was charged after switching to free”
Downgrading takes effect at the end of the paid period, so one more charge before that date is the one you'd already committed to. A charge after the end date is the one worth disputing.
What happens after you cancel Spotify Premium
- 1Premium continues to the end of the current paid period.
- 2The account then becomes a free account automatically — you are not locked out.
- 3Downloads for offline listening stop working; the playlists that contained them stay.
- 4Restarting Premium later is instant and keeps everything, which is worth knowing before you spend time exporting.
Cheaper than cancelling Spotify Premium
If the reason is the price rather than the service, there is usually a smaller number available before you give it up entirely.
- Duo or Family splits one bill across two or more people and is usually cheaper per person than separate individual plans.
- The free tier keeps your entire library — shuffle, ads and no offline playback are what you give up.
- Student verification, where you qualify, cuts the individual price substantially.
The hands-on route
What cancelling Spotify Premium yourself involves
About 2 minutes — if you have your login, know who actually bills you, and don't get caught by a save offer on the way out. Steps verified August 2026. If you'd rather not deal with any of it, start the form and we'll send the notice for you.
Cancel it, step by step
Start with who takes the money. That decides everything else. Not sure which is yours? Check who the charge is from on your card statement or receipt: “APPLE.COM/BILL” means Apple, “GOOGLE *” means Google Play.
You pay Spotify directly by card, and your receipts come from Spotify.
- 1Go to spotify.com and sign in, then open your Account page.
- 2Select Manage your plan (or Available plans).
- 3Scroll to your current plan and choose Cancel Premium.
- 4Work through the confirmation. Spotify shows the date your Premium features end.
You started Spotify inside an iPhone or iPad app, or your receipts come from Apple.
- 1Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad and tap your name at the top.
- 2Tap Subscriptions.
- 3Tap Spotify in the list of active subscriptions.
- 4Tap Cancel Subscription, then confirm.
- 5Check that the entry now reads “Expires” rather than “Renews”. That’s your confirmation.
You started Spotify in an Android app, or your receipts come from Google Play.
- 1Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile icon.
- 2Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- 3Select Spotify.
- 4Tap Cancel subscription and pick a reason to confirm.
- 5The entry should now show an end date instead of a renewal date.
Your Spotify charges show up as a PayPal automatic payment.
- 1Cancel with the service itself first: killing the PayPal agreement alone can leave an unpaid balance on the account.
- 2Then sign in to PayPal and open Settings (the gear icon).
- 3Go to Payments, then Manage automatic payments.
- 4Select Spotify and choose Cancel.
What happens after you cancel
When it takes effect
At the end of the current paid period.
What you keep
Premium keeps working until then, and your account converts to free rather than closing.
Refunds
Spotify’s standard position is no refund for the current period. In the UK and EU, a 14-day cooling-off right can apply to a recent purchase you haven’t meaningfully used.
Free trials
Cancel any time before the trial’s last day and you won’t be charged. You keep Premium through the remaining trial days.
What trips people up
The steps are the easy part. These are the things that leave people still paying a month later.
Downloads disappear, playlists don’t
Offline downloads are removed when Premium ends, and the free tier is ad-supported with limits. Your playlists and library are untouched, so a later resubscribe picks up where you left off.
Family and Duo plans cancel from the owner’s account
If you’re a member rather than the plan owner, you can’t cancel the plan. You can only leave it. The owner has to cancel to stop the billing.
A bundled Spotify is cancelled at the bundler
If Spotify came with your phone contract or a broadband package, the subscription belongs to that provider. Cancel it there: Spotify’s own account page won’t have the option.
Frequently asked
No. Cancelling Premium moves you to the free tier and your playlists, saved music, followers and listening history all stay exactly as they are. Only offline downloads and Premium-only features go away.
Spotify doesn’t offer cancellation inside the mobile app. Open spotify.com in a browser, sign in, and use the Account page: that’s the only place the option appears for direct subscribers.
Yes, and you keep Premium for the rest of the trial. As long as you cancel before the final day, no charge is taken.
Reset your password at spotify.com/password-reset using the email on the account. If the charge is on a card you control but you can’t identify the account, your bank statement’s descriptor plus Spotify support is the route. Cancelling the card alone leaves the subscription open.
You fill in one form with the name, address and email on the account. Submo composes a formal written cancellation notice from those details, addressed to the provider's record, and sends it on your behalf. You get a dated copy for your files. We never sign in to your account and never ask for your password.
The form takes about two minutes. Your notice is reviewed and dispatched by a person on our side — that review is deliberate, because a notice sent to the wrong entity is worse than no notice. Providers then process cancellations on their own timetable, commonly within a few business days.
No, and be wary of anyone who says otherwise. A cancellation notice exercises a right you already have under your agreement, and it creates a dated record that you exercised it. That record is what makes a bank dispute straightforward if billing continues. What the provider does next is the provider's decision.
Send your dated copy of the notice to your bank or card issuer and dispute the charge. A written notice with a date on it is exactly the evidence a chargeback needs, and it is the main practical reason to send one rather than clicking a button with no record.
$19.99 for one cancellation notice, charged once — not a subscription. Each additional provider on the same request is $9.99. If we fail to send your notice, we refund the fee in full.
No. That is the point of a written notice — it works when you've lost the password, lost access to the email, inherited Spotify Premium from someone else, or simply can't find the cancel button. We identify the account from the name, address and email you give us.
We collect only what the notice needs: your name, postal address and the email on the account. Card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. We don't sell data.
Yes, up to 5 on a single request. Add them with "Add another" on the form and each provider gets its own notice.
