How Submo cancels Netflix for you
- 1
Tell us who to cancel
Your name, address and the email on the account. That is everything we need — we never ask for your password and never sign in as you.

We prepare the notice
Submo composes a formal cancellation notice addressed to the provider's record, citing the account details you gave and requesting written confirmation.
- 3
We send it and tell you
The notice goes out on your behalf. You get a timestamped copy by email, so you have a paper trail if a charge shows up afterwards.

Why a written notice beats clicking cancel
A written record, timestamped
You get a dated copy of exactly what was sent and when. If the provider bills you after that date, that copy is what your bank wants to see.
No call, no retention script
You never speak to anyone. A written notice skips the save offers, the hold music and the chat agent whose job is to talk you out of it.
A data-deletion request included
Every notice also asks the provider to delete the personal data it holds on you, under CCPA or GDPR depending on where you live. They are obliged to answer it.
Our fee back if we don't send it
If Submo fails to send your notice, we refund our fee in full. We can't promise what the provider will do — nobody can — only what we do.
Before you cancel Netflix
Five minutes here saves the two things people lose most often when they cancel: a period they'd already paid for, and something they can't get back afterwards.
- 1Note your renewal date on the Account page. Netflix doesn't prorate, so cancelling the day after a charge wastes a full month you've already paid for.
- 2Check whether anyone else is using a profile. Cancelling ends the whole membership, not one profile, and extra member slots go with it.
- 3Download your viewing activity from the profile page if you want to keep it. It's the one thing that isn't restored on the same terms if you come back much later.
- 4Look at whether Netflix is billed through Apple, Google or a TV/broadband provider. If it is, cancelling on netflix.com won't stop the charge.
Does a Netflix cancellation notice actually do anything?
It does one specific thing, and it is worth being precise about what. Giving written notice of cancellation is the act that ends the auto-renewal obligation, and a dated notice fixes when you gave it. Clicking a cancel button also ends the obligation — but it leaves you with a confirmation email at best and nothing at worst.
That difference is invisible until it matters. If Netflix bills you after the effective date, the question your bank asks is when you cancelled and what proof you have. A dated notice answers both in one document. This is also why it works when you can't sign in: the notice doesn't depend on reaching a button inside the account.
What it does not do is compel Netflix to act. No letter can. Anyone selling you one that does is selling you something that doesn't exist.
Can I get a refund from Netflix?
Two different questions get mixed up here. The first — money back for a period you paid for and won't finish — is entirely Netflix's decision under its own refund policy, summarised in the self-serve section below. You can ask for it on the form above and the request goes into the notice, but it remains a request.
The second is a charge taken after your cancellation was effective. That isn't discretionary and isn't really a refund: it's a disputed charge, and your card issuer can reverse it. The dated notice is the evidence that supports the dispute, which is the main practical reason to send one at all.
How to stop Netflix auto-renewal
Netflix has no separate auto-renew switch. The membership renews until it is cancelled, and cancelling is the only way to stop it. Restarting before your access actually ends resumes the same billing date rather than starting a fresh cycle, which catches out people who cancel and then click back in to finish a series.
The notice we send asks explicitly for auto-renewal to be disabled and for any stored payment method to be removed, rather than only for the subscription to end. Those are separate things at most providers, and leaving the card on file is how a lapsed account quietly restarts.
What happens to your Netflix data
Netflix keeps profiles, ratings and your list for about 10 months after cancellation so a restart picks up where you left off. That's convenient and it's also why a cancelled Netflix account is one click from being a live one again. If you want the data gone rather than parked, a deletion request is a separate ask — it's included in the notice we send.
Every notice we send also carries a data-deletion request — under the CCPA if you're in the US, or the GDPR if you're in the EU or UK. Both give you a right to ask and oblige the provider to respond, though both also allow retention for specific purposes such as tax records. So it is a right to an answer, not a guarantee of erasure, and the notice asks Netflix to say which exemption it relies on if it keeps anything.
Can't cancel Netflix? The usual reasons
“There's no cancel button in the Netflix app”
The iPhone and some TV apps don't show it. Sign in at netflix.com in a browser instead; the option lives under Account → Membership.
“I cancelled but I'm still being charged”
Almost always because Netflix is billed by a third party — Apple, Google Play, Amazon, or a cable/broadband bundle. Check where the receipt comes from and cancel there. Netflix cannot stop a charge that Apple is making.
“I've lost the password and the email on the account”
Your card statement shows the email that was billed. Netflix support can work from that plus the last four digits of the card. A written notice also works here, because it doesn't require signing in.
What happens after you cancel Netflix
- 1Access continues to the end of the period you've already paid for — the exact date is shown when you confirm.
- 2On that date the membership stops and the profiles become inactive rather than deleted.
- 3No further charge is taken. A charge that posts a day or two after you cancel is normally the last one settling, not a new one.
- 4Netflix emails a confirmation. Keep it; with the dated notice it's what a bank wants if a later charge appears.
Cheaper than cancelling Netflix
If the reason is the price rather than the service, there is usually a smaller number available before you give it up entirely.
- The ad-supported tier costs substantially less than the ad-free plans and carries the same catalogue.
- Dropping from Premium to Standard keeps ad-free viewing and cuts the number of simultaneous screens and the maximum resolution.
- Removing an extra member slot reduces the bill without ending the membership.
The hands-on route
What cancelling Netflix yourself involves
About 2 minutes — if you have your login, know who actually bills you, and don't get caught by a save offer on the way out. Steps verified August 2026. If you'd rather not deal with any of it, start the form and we'll send the notice for you.
Cancel it, step by step
Start with who takes the money. That decides everything else. Not sure which is yours? Check who the charge is from on your card statement or receipt: “APPLE.COM/BILL” means Apple, “GOOGLE *” means Google Play.
You pay Netflix directly by card, and your receipts come from Netflix.
- 1Sign in at netflix.com on a browser (the cancel option is hidden in some TV apps).
- 2Open the profile menu in the top right and choose Account.
- 3Under Membership, select Cancel Membership.
- 4Confirm on the next screen. Netflix shows the exact date your access ends.
You started Netflix inside an iPhone or iPad app, or your receipts come from Apple.
- 1Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad and tap your name at the top.
- 2Tap Subscriptions.
- 3Tap Netflix in the list of active subscriptions.
- 4Tap Cancel Subscription, then confirm.
- 5Check that the entry now reads “Expires” rather than “Renews”. That’s your confirmation.
You started Netflix in an Android app, or your receipts come from Google Play.
- 1Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile icon.
- 2Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- 3Select Netflix.
- 4Tap Cancel subscription and pick a reason to confirm.
- 5The entry should now show an end date instead of a renewal date.
What happens after you cancel
When it takes effect
At the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for.
What you keep
You keep full access, including downloads and profiles, until that date.
Refunds
Netflix doesn’t prorate. Cancelling on day 2 of a paid month still gives you the rest of the month rather than money back, so time it for just before renewal.
Free trials
Netflix no longer runs a standard free trial in most markets. If you’re on a promotional period, cancelling before it ends stops the first charge.
What trips people up
The steps are the easy part. These are the things that leave people still paying a month later.
Your profiles and history stick around for 10 months
Netflix keeps your account details so you can restart without losing your list. Convenient, but it also means a restart is one click away, which is how a lot of cancelled accounts quietly come back.
Cancelling the app isn’t cancelling the subscription
Deleting the Netflix app, or removing your card from the account, doesn’t stop billing. The subscription has to be cancelled where it’s billed.
Extra member slots bill separately
If you added an extra member to your household, that add-on is its own line item. Cancelling the main plan removes it, but check your account page so you’re not surprised.
Frequently asked
You can’t. Netflix requires account access to cancel. If you’ve lost your password, reset it at netflix.com/loginhelp using the email or phone number on the account. If you’ve lost the email too, your card statement shows which email was billed, and Netflix support can help from there.
No. Once the cancellation is confirmed, no further charges are made. A charge that lands after you cancel is usually the payment for the period you were already in, posted a day or two late.
Netflix doesn’t issue prorated refunds for a partly-used month as standard. If you were charged after cancelling, or charged for an account you don’t recognise, contact Netflix support; those cases are handled individually.
No. Netflix cancellation is fully self-serve online, and there’s no retention call to sit through.
You fill in one form with the name, address and email on the account. Submo composes a formal written cancellation notice from those details, addressed to the provider's record, and sends it on your behalf. You get a dated copy for your files. We never sign in to your account and never ask for your password.
The form takes about two minutes. Your notice is reviewed and dispatched by a person on our side — that review is deliberate, because a notice sent to the wrong entity is worse than no notice. Providers then process cancellations on their own timetable, commonly within a few business days.
No, and be wary of anyone who says otherwise. A cancellation notice exercises a right you already have under your agreement, and it creates a dated record that you exercised it. That record is what makes a bank dispute straightforward if billing continues. What the provider does next is the provider's decision.
Send your dated copy of the notice to your bank or card issuer and dispute the charge. A written notice with a date on it is exactly the evidence a chargeback needs, and it is the main practical reason to send one rather than clicking a button with no record.
$19.99 for one cancellation notice, charged once — not a subscription. Each additional provider on the same request is $9.99. If we fail to send your notice, we refund the fee in full.
No. That is the point of a written notice — it works when you've lost the password, lost access to the email, inherited Netflix from someone else, or simply can't find the cancel button. We identify the account from the name, address and email you give us.
We collect only what the notice needs: your name, postal address and the email on the account. Card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. We don't sell data.
Yes, up to 5 on a single request. Add them with "Add another" on the form and each provider gets its own notice.
