How to cancel Planet Fitness

A data-deletion request included
Every notice also asks the provider to delete personal data it no longer needs. The provider decides what it can delete and what it must retain.

Does a Planet Fitness cancellation notice actually do anything?
A written notice records your request and the date it was sent. Submo can send one to Planet Fitness on your behalf, but Planet Fitness controls the subscription and decides when it takes effect. Check your Planet Fitness account for the actual renewal status and expiry date.
Planet Fitness lists its website member portal as a cancellation option. Availability and procedures can vary by club; check your account or ask the club for its instructions. A notice can add a dated paper trail if you need one; it does not replace checking the provider's status.
Can I get a refund from Planet Fitness?
Check the refund terms in your own membership agreement. Unused gym time does not automatically create a refund entitlement, and sending a notice does not guarantee money back.
For an unexpected or duplicate charge, contact your home club with the transaction, cancellation confirmation and delivery record. Ask it to explain any final dues, annual fee or commitment charge before escalating an unresolved billing dispute to your payment provider.
How to stop Planet Fitness auto-renewal
Check your membership’s actual billing schedule in your account or agreement. A requested cancellation date is not a confirmed end date; keep checking until your home club confirms the outcome.
Stopping a card payment does not itself cancel the membership. Follow the club’s cancellation process and retain confirmation of the final billing date.
What happens to your Planet Fitness data
Cancellation and deletion of account data are separate requests. The club may need to retain records for billing or other obligations.
Every notice we send also carries a request to delete personal data that is no longer needed. This is not a guarantee of erasure: Planet Fitness may retain information for purposes such as billing records, fraud prevention, or another legal obligation.

“I do not know my home club”
Check your membership agreement or account and any transfer confirmation. Use the official directory to match that club’s address, rather than selecting whichever gym is nearest now.
“The portal has no cancellation option”
Contact your home club for the method available to your membership. If mailing, confirm its postal address and requirements before sending.
“The letter was delivered but I am still being charged”
Ask the club to confirm processing, the effective date and the reason for the charge. Share the notice and delivery record. Retain its reply alongside your statements.
What happens after you cancel Planet Fitness

Cheaper than cancelling Planet Fitness

A discounted joining offer is not necessarily a free trial or a no-commitment membership. Check the offer and signed agreement.

Annual fees have a separate deadline
Check your own annual-fee date before choosing when to cancel. Mailing near a deadline leaves little room for delivery or processing delays; use the receipt deadlines above when planning.
A minimum term can mean a buyout fee
Planet Fitness’s FAQ lists a $58 buyout fee for ending a minimum-term membership early. Check whether your agreement has a remaining commitment; no-commitment offers differ.
A Black Card does not change your home club
Access to other locations is a membership benefit. It does not tell you which location holds your agreement. Confirm your current home club before sending a notice.
Keep proof of the outcome
Keep the request, delivery record and the club’s confirmation together. If charges continue, use those dates and documents when asking the club to resolve them.
